PoE budget calculator
Compare the sum of device power assumptions with a switch’s available PoE budget, including a margin you choose. This is an aggregate planning check only.
Enter PoE device loads
Replace the example watts with each device’s maximum PoE draw from its product data. Set count to zero for unused rows.

Formula and worked example
Connected load = sum of (device count × entered maximum watts) for each device type, plus other PoE loads. Planned budget = connected load × (1 + headroom ÷ 100).
Example: 4 cameras × 8 W + 2 access points × 15 W + 2 readers × 5 W = 72 W. With 25% headroom, plan for 90 W; compare that with the switch’s stated available PoE budget.
The switch’s headline power supply rating may not equal its usable PoE budget. This estimate does not check per-port maximums, device PoE class, standards, switch port count, cable losses, startup peaks, power-supply redundancy or vendor compatibility. Confirm each limit against product documentation and the intended design.
A positive remaining figure is not proof that every device will power correctly. Check switch and endpoint specifications, cable conditions and applicable installation requirements.
